Troy Civic Theatre announces Auditions for the Cast of Blithe Spirit on Monday, December 19, 2011and Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at 7:00 PM at the Barn in the Park on Adams Street across from Hobart Arena.
Blithe Spirit is a Noel Coward theatre classic romantic comedy which takes its title from Percy Bysshe Shelley's poem “To a Skylark” ("Hail to thee, blithe Spirit! / Bird thou never wert"). The show is set in the 1940's in New York (no accent needed). The play concerns socialite and novelist Charles Condomine, who invites the eccentric medium and clairvoyant, Madame Arcati, to his house to conduct a séance hoping to gather material for his next book. The scheme backfires when he is haunted by the ghost of his annoying and temperamental first wife, Elvira, following the séance. Elvira makes continual attempts to disrupt Charles's marriage to his second wife, Ruth, who cannot see or hear the ghost.
The co-directors, Niccole SueAnn Wallace and Rebeccs O'Brien, are looking for two men and five women actors in the age range listed below for each character: Charles Condomine, late 30's to mid 50's, Ruth Condomine, mid 30's-early 50's, Edith (the maid), early 20's, Dr. George bradman, early 40's- mid 60's, Mrs. Violet Bradman, late 30's-early 60's, Madame arcati – mid 50's- early 80's, and Elvira Condomine, late 20's- late 30's. Therressa Knock is assistant director and Sonja Hyer is stage manager. There are also many opportunities for backstage crew. The first read through will be January 4, 2012.
